I’m in Lisbon, Portugal, which is warm, and beautiful.

I’ve done a couple of performances organised by André Gonçalves, performing with Pedro Boavida in the wonderful Estudio Bomba Suicida, and with some of the super-rad NIP folk on another night, all as part of a NIP – Sonic Scope – Upgrade! Lisbon event, last weekend. There should be audio from the night with Pedro and audio and video from the night with the NIP folk making its way here in the near future.

Also, a website reorganisation is in order. Per some advice from others I’m going to put the blog on a separate page; plus, I’d like a separate section dealing with upcoming performances and another just for documentation of said performances.

Over the last few weeks, through performing at Ars Electronica, and then coming here to Lisbon and sort of falling into a NIP workshop week, I’ve become reinspired about performing live as a musician, and I want to start developing that here in Europe a bit more.

More soon.

P.S. – do you all like Five? Comments appreciated, as always…

12.9 miles! Doubling back on myself multiple times! And that’s from the exit of the canal, and doesn’t count the part when I travelling from the centre of the city to the start point of this route via the canal.
I’m feeling quite fit at the moment.

Climbing up through forestry land we eventually arrive at Loch Katrine, where the forestry service is undertaking a ‘wilding’ process, where they plant lots of native forest and then leave the land to revert to wildness. Sun sets over the MacGregor clan burial ground.

Wednesday

Loch Katrine, Loch Achray, Loch Venachar, Callander (map) I’m doing bugger-all distance daily but who cares, cos it’s lovely.

Hilltop, Killin, Kenmore, Aberfeldy (map)
Country lanes and pretty houses. I’m following the Sustrans National Cycling Network Lochs and Glens North route and it’s almost all like this – traffic free paths and tiny country lanes that don’t see more than two cars an hour. Lovely. Stayed that night in an anglers’ bothy by the river, my first night of not true wild camping.

Saturday

Pitlochry, train to Achnashellach via Inverness (map)

Achnashellach station looks like this. Stayed at a backpacker hostel. Eaten alive by midges.

Gairloch

Monday

It rained and galed at me, so I turned around and went back to Kinlochewe. (map)

The second picture shows a loch flooding over a footbridge that leads to some tracks around the hills.

Tuesday 12th August

Sunny. Of course. Heading back toward Inverness by train, I leave my glasses on the fence at the train station to Achnasheen and have to go back the next day to get them. Gah! (map)

Wednesday

Having stayed the night at a backpackers, I go back, locate my glasses. Then off to Edinburgh. (map)

Inverness looks like Dunedin.

I am going cycling in Scotland from tomorrow. I will catch a train to Stirling, bike to Aberfoyle and try to camp by Loch Ard tomorrow night, getting to Lock Katrine by Monday, catch a ferry over Loch Katrine and then come back, hopefully back near a railway line, probably Dunblane by Tuesday/Wednesday morning. Catch a train from Dunblane to Achnashellach in the Wester Ross region, go up over the Coulin Pass, stay in a bothy, come down the other side, head down the A896 and on to the Isle of Skye.

Will let you know if I make it.
