Ars Electronica: some wicked pieces
Some links to some of my favourite pieces at Ars Electronica 2007:
- Siren – Ray Lee
- Feed – Kurt Hentschlager
- Arabesque – Peter William Holden
- @c + Lia – live performance (actually, the first ‘movement’ of their performance was much, much better than the second: the first part, especially the visuals, had a strong narrative structure)
- Arrival – Shelley Eshkar (US) & Paul Kaiser (US). I loved this piece for, among other things, its presentation: it was a tabletop animation with headphones, in a quiet corner; and its soundtrack: when you put on the headphones the figures on the table really came to life. It brought back the reason I used to love playing Settlers II: the notion of this universe of little characters all endearingly running around doing things, completely oblivious to me as the observer, and again with great sound design.
- Acting in Utopia – although only two of the pieces are mentioned on the Ars Electronica website I loved the entire upstairs area of the Landesgalerie Oberösterreich, because it was so playful and made me feel like I was a kid again.
probably more to come later…
